The artwork bill

Everything Findy needs somebody to draw, counted for the first time. 5 September 2026.

61
separate drawings owed
122
once everything is drawn twice, light and dark
0
drawn so far

45 of the 61 are firm, taken straight off the motion plan and the drawings plan. 16 are my estimate of work those plans say out loud has never been costed, and they are marked as estimates below so you can see which is which. Nothing here is a guess about how long any of it takes: it is a count of drawings.

1The fourteen Places

The tiles on your Home screen. You settled the list of fourteen kinds on 4 September, and none of them has been drawn.

DrawingsWhatWhy that many
16 The eight that open
garage, attic, shed, under stairs, wardrobe, storage, car, van
Each needs the outside with its door as a separate piece, and the inside drawn behind it. A door that opens onto nothing cannot be built afterwards.
6 The six that swell
study, cellar, garden, spare room, somebody else's, allotment
These have no door, so they puff up as though too full instead. That is one piece moving, so it costs no extra drawing.
22firm straight from the motion plan, section 4b and 4c

One of these is a known problem and it is now three months old. Cellar and Under stairs are both drawn as stair shapes, so two of your fourteen tiles look alike. Since the tile is the thing people tap, that is the control failing rather than an untidiness. It gets settled while these are being drawn, not before, because you need to see them.

2The three characters

The Finder, the Packer and the Keeper. What exists today is a rough sketch made of coloured shapes, not the painted artwork you approved.

DrawingsWhatWhy that many
12Each one taken apartHead, both arms, and the body drawn whole behind them, for all three. This is what lets them move later. A character delivered as one flat picture can never be taken apart.
4Four extra expressions and posesA puzzled face for B2a, glasses for C4c, a raising-the-camera pose for N1, and one picture with all three of them together for H1a.
16firm 12 from the motion plan, 4 found while finishing the drawings pass yesterday

The motion plan calls this the expensive part and says so in as many words. Painted artwork taken apart into pieces is the hardest thing on this page.

3The kitchen and the board

DrawingsWhatWhy that many
3The fridgeShut, the shelves behind the door, and the thing that goes in.
2The board and the pin (C4)The board is drawn complete, including the part the photograph ends up covering. A board drawn with a photograph-shaped hole in it cannot be built at all.
2The back of a photograph, and a camera flashFound yesterday. A photograph coming off a board turns over, so it has a back (D1b and N5), and N1 needs the burst of the flash.

4The part nobody has costed

The motion plan says this outright: "none of it is costed yet." These numbers are mine, not yours, and they are the ones most likely to move.

DrawingsWhatWhy that many
12Four household objects that come alive
the Container, the Shelf, the label, the queue of photographs
Your Aladdin's-carpet idea, decided on 4 September. Each needs a large version made of separate pieces, on top of the small flat one that already exists. Roughly three pieces each.
4Four objects that wait, for the apology screensOf the eleven failure screens, four are cases where nothing is actually wrong (no signal, still uploading). Those get an object waiting patiently rather than a character saying sorry. The other seven reuse the characters above.
16my estimate not yours, and worth challenging

One thing changes what this part needs, and it is not a drawing problem. The motion plan says these four objects need an animator rather than an illustrator, and that no estimate on this project has ever assumed that. It is flagged here so it does not arrive as a surprise.

5Already drawn, but not yet real

42 marks exist as computer instructions, not as artwork. The 39 small interface icons and the 3 shelf pictures (fridge, freezer, cupboard) are Python code that draws pictures for you to look at. None of them ships. Turning them into files the app can use is part of this job and adds no new drawing, but it is real work and it is not counted in the 61 above.

6The doubling

Every drawing is made twice, once for the light screen and once for the dark one. You took that cost knowingly on 31 August. It is the single biggest multiplier on this page, which is why 61 becomes 122, and it is worth seeing written down once.

A near-black drawing disappears on a dark page and the light page cannot show you that it has. So the second version is not a nicety.

7What is still open

open  Does Findy make any sound at all?

Nobody has ever decided this. You described one yourself when we talked about the capture button: "it should feel like closing a box or taping a box, that sort of feel, that sort of sound effect." That brief has been sitting in the motion file since 31 August with nothing to attach it to. Sound is the last of the five design passes and it now gets decided screen by screen alongside the animation, but the yes-or-no comes first.

open  Cellar and Under stairs look the same

First raised 31 August, and it has now ridden three handovers without being worked. It is not a tidiness problem: you decided the tile itself is what people tap, with the name small underneath, so two tiles that look alike is that decision failing. It resolves while the fourteen Places are drawn, because you need to see them side by side to fix it.

open  Nothing can be drawn until the look is pinned down

There are two looks running side by side and you settled both: small interface objects are flat, the three characters are painted. What does not exist yet is a written description of each, precise enough that a picture generator produces the same thing every time. Without it, drawing number forty does not match drawing number one, and that mismatch is one of the things people recognise as machine-made without being able to say why.

This is what the very first drawings buy: two or three samples of each look, side by side, for you to pick from. Everything after that is held to what you picked.

Where the numbers come from. Sections 1 to 3 are read off design/MOTION_PLAN.md > 4, which is the bill the animation pass wrote, plus four items found while finishing the drawings pass on 4 and 5 September. Section 4 is my own count of scope that same file records as uncosted. Section 5 is design/ILLUSTRATION_PLAN.md > 2. The doubling is from design/aesthetic-brief.md.

What this page is not. It is not a schedule and carries no timings. It is not a decision: nothing here has been chosen or ruled out. Written by /asset-forge on its first run, which is also the run that created assets/ASSET_INDEX.md, the register every drawing gets recorded in.
